Spiny Oyster – Spiny Oyster or Thorny Oyster is a shell, and are not actually oyster, but are more closely related to scallops.  Their shells have spines serving as protection and giving them their name.  They have a wide range of colors based on their region, what they eat, and the depth of water were they are found.  A common color choice used in Native American jewelry is orange, but other shades such as red, pink, brown, yellow and white are used as well.
